Il fascino del mistero… Quante volte restiamo colpiti da una cosa che non riusciamo a comprendere a dovere, oppure fissare persone celate dietro travestimenti o maschere, tutto questo accende in noi la curiosità e spesso ci fa soffermare più del dovuto avanti al fenomeno della circostanza. Nel mio caso resto incuriosito dal gruppo Fiesta Alba, a me sconosciuto anche perché esordisce oggi con questo EP dal titolo omonimo. Quattro musicisti e lottatori che si celano dietro ad una maschera e con nomi di fantasia, Octagon (composizioni, chitarra, graphic design), Dos Caras (produzione artistica, suoni sintetici e digitali), Fishman (basso), e Pyerroth (batteria).
Con queste premesse per capirne di più vado a sbirciare l’artwork del disco il quale si presenta in versione cartonata e minimale. Un mucchio di appartamenti ricopre quasi la totalità dell’immagine donando un senso quasi di angoscia metropolitana, così all’interno e nel retro si possono solamente leggere i titoli dei brani con tra parentesi i nomi di chi partecipa come special guest alla voce. I disegni sono di Andrea Frittella.
I Fiesta Alba propongono nei cinque brani una musica per ballare sul mondo post pandemico, un approccio da veri lottatori senza risparmiarsi, fra Math Rock, elettronica e Post Punk.  In “Laundry” l’ospite Welle sforna una prestazione eccellente, legandosi alla perfezione con la musica dal groove accattivante su riff intriganti. Qui sento anche influenze sia Talking Heads sia King Crimson, il ritmo è padrone dell’andamento, difficile restare fermi all’ascolto. Disarticolato quanto affascinante l’assolo di chitarra.
Fra suoni indutrial inizia “Juicy Lips” con Tha Brooklyn Guy al microfono, un brano ricercato sopra un Rap strampalato, qui gli strumenti sembrano perdere il controllo per avventurarsi in sentieri sconosciuti. Genio e sregolatezza a braccetto. L’ottima incisione è esaltata dagli effetti stereo. Ed è la volta di “Dem Say” con Kylo Osprey, questa volta a pararsi avanti agli occhi della fantasia è l’Africa nera grazie ai supporti afrobeat. La chitarra è protagonista mentre il vocale racconta favole fantasiose su questa terra. Un riff ancora una volta made in re cremisi accoglie l’ascolto in “Burkina Phase” suonato assieme a Thomas Sankara, il brano in questione è quello che ho apprezzato di più forse per la mia innata anima “progressiva”. Lo zigzagare nel pentagramma è oramai fattore acquisito e ne sono consapevole. Chiude “Octagon”, poco più di due minuti fra chitarra elettrica e suoni ciclici.
I Fiesta Alba si presentano così al pubblico, con un pugno allo stomaco e tantissima personalità, una musica non per tutti ma dal fascino assolutamente intrigante, come ho detto all’inizio, il mistero gioca un ruolo importante. Solo il tempo saprà svelarci la verità. MS

The fascination of mystery... How many times we are struck by something that we cannot properly understand, or stare at people concealed behind disguises or masks, all of which ignites curiosity in us and often makes us dwell more than necessary ahead of the phenomenon of circumstance. In my case I remain intrigued by the group Fiesta Alba, also unknown to me because they make their debut today with this self-titled EP. Four musicians and wrestlers hiding behind a mask and with fancy names, Octagon (compositions, guitar, graphic design), Dos Caras (production art, synthetic and digital sounds), Fishman (bass), and Pyerroth (drums).
With this in mind to understand more, I go to peek at the album's artwork which is presented in a hardback, minimalist version. A pile of apartments covers almost the entire image giving a sense almost of metropolitan angst, so inside and in the back you can only read the titles of the songs with in parentheses the names of those who participate as special guest on vocals. The drawings are by Andrea Frittella.
Fiesta Alba offer in their five tracks music for dancing on the post-pandemic world, an unsparingly wrestling approach between Math Rock, electronica and Post Punk.  In "Laundry" guest Welle churns out an excellent performance, tying in perfectly with the music's catchy groove over intriguing riffs. Here I also hear influences from both Talking Heads and King Crimson, the rhythm is masterful, hard to stay still listening. Disjointed as much as fascinating is the guitar solo.
Amidst indutrial sounds begins "Juicy Lips" with Tha Brooklyn Guy on the microphone, a sought-after track over a wacky Rap, here the instruments seem to lose control to venture into unknown paths. Genius and unruliness at arm's length. The excellent recording is enhanced by the stereo effects. And it is the turn of "Dem Say" with Kylo Osprey, this time parading before the eyes of the imagination is black Africa thanks to the afrobeat backings. The guitar takes center stage while the vocals tell imaginative tales about this land. A riff once again made in King Crimson welcomes the listening in "Burkina Phase" played together with Thomas Sankara, the track in question is the one I enjoyed the most perhaps because of my innate "progressive" soul. Zigzagging in the stave is now an acquired factor and I am aware of it. "Octagon," just over two minutes between electric guitar and cyclic sounds, closes.
This is how Fiesta Alba presents themselves to the audience, with a punch to the gut and lots of personality, music not for everyone but with an absolutely intriguing appeal, as I said at the beginning, mystery plays an important role. Only time will reveal the truth. MS
