Ne è passato di tempo da quando a Treviso nel 1993 si fondarono gli Antilabè, sembra banale dirlo ma il tempo veramente vola, mi sembra ieri quando nel 1997 ascoltavo il debutto “Dedalo”. Oggi Carla Sossai (voce), Marino Vettoretti (chitarre, percussioni, tastiere), Adolfo Silvestri (basso fretted e fretless, handpan Rav Vast), Alessandro Leo (sax baritono e soprano), Luca Crepet (batteria, glockenspiel, marimba, percussioni, vibrafono, timpani), Loris Sovernigo (gran coda Steinway, tastiere) e Luca Tozzato (batteria, percussioni) ritornano dopo quasi cinque anni dal buon “Domus Venetkens” (Lizard Records) con una gran voglia di gridare al mondo il significato della vita. I brani di questo nuovo album intitolato “Animi Motus” sono quindi micro-viaggi dove tutte le emozioni vengono alla luce, dalla paura all’amore, e poi rabbia, tristezza, speranza e molto altro ancora. Il nome Antilabè fa venire alla mente qualcosa di antico, infatti, un soldato combattente a Sparta è in possesso di uno scudo con doppia impugnatura chiamato Antilabè ed è così che entrambi gli oggetti sono presi come simbolo della band, perché sono una rappresentazione ideale della ricerca sonora che il settetto mette in campo.
In questo nuovo e impegnativo tragitto si coadiuvano del supporto di special guest quali Giuseppe Bepi De Bortoli (flauto contralto), Arrigo Pietrobon (oboe), Magister Espresso Orchestra (orchestra d'archi), Enzo Giraldo (narratore), e Martina Vettoretti (narratrice).
Ci si addentra immediatamente nei “Labirinti Della Mente”, un Folk Progressivo realizzato con tanto di flauto mentre il vibrafono solfeggia un riff ipnotico. Essendo un brano Prog, non può mancare il cambio di andamento, e il sax esibisce al meglio uno sviluppo altalenante fra pacatezza e vitalità. Gli Antilabè fanno un passaggio negli anni ’70 in “Metalleia”, quasi un brano in stile Perigeo, dove il cantato di Carla Sossai segue un sentiero Jazz raffinato. Ricerca sonora in “Dubitare”, corpo e anima vibrano all’unisono assieme agli strumenti che lasciano tracce di World Music alle spalle. Apprezzabile il ruolo dei fiati. Il ritmo sale con “Timor Panico”, qui l’esperienza degli strumentisti esce allo scoperto e si da senza timore in pasto all’ascoltatore. Nei suoni aleggia sempre un velo vintage che dona un fascino del tutto particolare. “Segregazione” Si apre con rumoristica e voci, un angolo psichedelico che spezza l’ascolto sin qui abbastanza omogeneo. Narrazione e suoni hanno sempre una magia all’interno, basta ricordare l’album dei Pholas Dactylus, proprio quelli del famoso “Concerto Delle Menti” datato 1973. Un ragionato suono di pianoforte sbriciola note attraverso pause lunghe in “De Animi Solitudine”, Loris incanta su una composizione che da sola vale l’acquisto del disco, una vera perla classica. “Resilienza” attraverso le magiche atmosfere riporta l’attenzione sul suono d’insieme, sette minuti di Folk Progressivo intenso. La conclusione spetta a “Una Luce Nuova”, qui anche canti sciamani a sostegno di suoni che richiamano la natura.
Gli Antilabè con “Animi Motus” rimarcano e soprattutto consigliano che la vita s’impara giorno per giorno e pure l’adattamento è importante, lo diceva anche un certo Charles Darwin, “Non è la più forte delle specie che sopravvive, né la più intelligente, ma quella che si adatta meglio al cambiamento.”. La musica ci viene incontro, se poi è quella degli Antilabè, allora è ancor più rassicurante. Di quest’album è edita anche la versione vinilica. MS

It's been a long time since Antilabè was founded in Treviso in 1993, it seems trite to say but time really flies, it seems like yesterday when I was listening to the debut "Dedalo" in 1997. Today Carla Sossai (vocals), Marino Vettoretti (guitars, percussion, keyboards), Adolfo Silvestri (fretted and fretless bass, handpan Rav Vast), Alessandro Leo (baritone and soprano sax), Luca Crepet (drums, glockenspiel, marimba, percussion, vibraphone, timpani), Loris Sovernigo (Steinway grand coda, keyboards) and Luca Tozzato (drums, percussion) return after almost five years since the good "Domus Venetkens" (Lizard Records) with a great desire to shout to the world the meaning of life. The songs on this new album entitled "Animi Motus" are thus micro-journeys where all emotions come to light, from fear to love, and then anger, sadness, hope and much more. The name Antilabé brings to mind something ancient, in fact a fighting soldier in Sparta is in possession of a shield with a double hilt called Antilabé and that is how both objects are taken as a symbol of the band, because they are an ideal representation of the sonic research that the septet puts forth.
In this new and challenging journey they are assisted by the support of special guests such as Giuseppe Bepi De Bortoli (alto flute), Arrigo Pietrobon (oboe), Magister Espresso Orchestra (string orchestra), Enzo Giraldo (narrator), and Martina Vettoretti (narrator).
We immediately delve into "Labyrinths Of The Mind," a Progressive Folk realized with lots of flute while the vibraphone solfies a hypnotic riff. This being a Prog song, there can be no missing the change of pace, and the sax exhibits at its best a swinging development between calmness and vitality. Antilabé makes a transition into the 1970s in "Metalleia," almost a Perigee-style track where Carla Sossai's singing follows a refined Jazz path. Sound research in "Doubting," body and soul vibrate in unison along with instruments that leave traces of world music behind. The role of the woodwinds is appreciable. The pace rises with "Timor Panico," here the experience of the instrumentalists comes out into the open and fearlessly gives itself to the listener. A vintage veil always hovers in the sounds, giving them a charm of their own. "Segregation" Opens with noise and vocals, a psychedelic angle that breaks up the hitherto fairly homogeneous listening. Narration and sounds always have a magic inside, just remember the album by Pholas Dactylus , the very ones of the famous "Concert Of The Minds" dated 1973. A reasoned piano sound crumbles notes through long pauses in "De Animi Solitudine," Loris enchants on a composition that alone is worth the purchase of the disc, a true classical gem. "Resilience" through magical atmospheres brings the focus back to the overall sound, seven minutes of intense Progressive Folk. The conclusion belongs to "A New Light," here also shaman chants supporting sounds that recall nature.
Antilabe with "Animi Motus" emphasize and above all advise that life is learned day by day and adaptation is important as well, a certain Charles Darwin also said so , "It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one that adapts best to change." Music comes to us, and if it is that of Antilabe, then it is even more reassuring. A vinyl version of this album is also edited. MS
