Dietro a un disco si cela un grande sforzo creativo e tanta passione per la musica. La realizzazione finale è il coronamento stesso di un pensiero tradotto in suoni, ma anche di stati d’animo o di sensazioni generiche.
Esistono musicisti che hanno dedicato molto tempo allo studio del proprio lavoro e che, solo dopo alcuni anni, vedono raggiunto il traguardo; uno di questi è Marco Leodori. Sin da bambino dimostra di amare la musica e, a tredici anni, imbraccia la sua prima chitarra sotto la guida del maestro Riccardo Martinini. Alla fine degli anni ’70 entra nella band i Naif, per poi passare alle tastiere. Compone brani propri e, con essi, nel 1983 fa parte del gruppo Alta Quota. Passano gli anni, cambiano le band (Secret World, cover band di Peter Gabriel) e si approfondiscono gli studi, ma i Naif restano la band principale, con la quale nel 2014 aprono un concerto di Aldo Tagliapietra (ex Orme).
Leodori è dunque un sognatore, colui che vive la musica da dentro, con passione e, dopo anni di gestazione, “Anima Naif” è finalmente una realtà.
Il polistrumentista romano ha collaborato anche con la storica fanzine Wonderous Stories; da qui avrete capito che la sua passione è il progressive rock, soprattutto quello di matrice Genesis, e non disdegna passaggi nel Neo Prog degli anni ’80.
“Anima Naif” è formato da tredici brani per ben settantotto minuti di musica, praticamente un doppio album. Per la realizzazione si avvale di un nutrito gruppo di musicisti noti nel panorama, tra cui Alessandro Corvaglia, Mauro Montobbio, Alessandro Carmassi, Guglielmo Mariotti, Andrea Amici, Filippo Marcheggiani, Stefano Vicarelli e altri ancora; vi partecipa anche la giovane figlia Federica Leodori alla voce.
“Empty Blue Skies” esprime sin da subito la sensibilità dell’autore che, attraverso le tastiere, disegna emotivi passaggi ariosi con un assolo spaziale di chitarra dal profumo Neo Prog di Mauro Montobbio (Narrow Pass). Alle tastiere anche Emanuele Telli. Il sax di Claudio Braccio è la classica ciliegina sulla torta, mentre risulta pulita la ritmica di Claudio Braccio al basso e di Massimo Moscatelli alla batteria. Alessandro Carmassi interpreta il brano in maniera ineccepibile, senza strafare, restando perfettamente incastonato nelle melodie di base.
Molto attento alla formula canzone, il brano “A Winter Day Dream” vede Alessandro Corvaglia (La Maschera Di Cera, Delirium, Hostonaten, ecc.) alla voce. Ancora ottimo il momento di chitarra da parte di Filippo Marcheggiani. Alle tastiere anche Paolo Carnelli e Stefano Vicarelli.
“Lonesome Man” vede l’ingresso del flauto di Maria Teresa De Donatis, un’aria ancora una volta Neo Prog, delicata e a tratti sognante. Ma è con “Legends” che si ha la prima sorpresa: uno strumentale che rimanda al mondo fantastico della Premiata Forneria Marconi, una cavalcata sonora con cambi di ritmo e tante tastiere al supporto. Il classico brano che un Progfan attende con bramosia, enfatico e maestoso come un sogno ad occhi aperti. Mauro Montobbio arricchisce non soltanto questo brano, ma tutto l’album grazie alla chitarra elettrica e all’animo gentile che lo contraddistingue.
Dopo tanta sonorità vigorosa, “Guardando Le Stelle” riporta quiete e serenità grazie soprattutto alla bella voce di Roberta Petteruti. Struggente e profonda, la canzone tocca le corde dell’anima, e non stupitevi se vi ritroverete una lacrima a scendere sul viso come è accaduto a me.
“Look At Your Heart” ha un inizio ritmato in stile Eugenio Finardi; qui siamo in un contesto ancora una volta differente, con il ritorno di Emanuele Brignola al basso e di Federica alla voce, un brano Pop Rock gradevole e scorrevole. Ciò denota e sottolinea la cultura musicale di Leodori ad ampio spettro.
Altra bella prova vocale di Federica giunge nella semi‑ballata “Come Un Gabbiano”, dove fa ritorno gradito il sax di Claudio Braccio. Altra sorpresa, altro territorio con “Unity”, dove si sconfina addirittura nell’A.O.R.
“La Sorgente” riconduce alla formula canzone, con tanto di flauto e melodie di facile assimilazione, mentre lo strumentale “In The King’s Name” racconta tanta storia degli anni ’80, un bellissimo mix fra Marillion e musica italiana! Elegante “Only One Day” per poi passare con “Genesi” al Prog in stile Jethro Tull periodo anni ’90/2000. La chiusura spetta a “Dream Is Over”, ottimo esempio di crescendo emotivo che suggella al meglio questo lungo viaggio.
Tanta sostanza in “Anima Naif”, perfetto nomen omen per una musica ricca di particolari, colorata e fatta con il cuore. Il tempo ripaga e Marco Leodori è una bella sorpresa che va supportata in ogni maniera. Consiglio agli addetti ai lavori: date luce a “Guardando le Stelle”, una gemma rara. MS

Behind a disc lies a great creative effort and a lot of passion for music. The final realization is the crowning of a thought turned into sound, but also of moods or generic sensations.
There are musicians who have devoted a great deal of time to studying their craft and only after several years see the finish line; one of them is Marco Leodori. From childhood he shows a love for music and, at thirteen, picks up his first guitar under the guidance of maestro Riccardo Martinini. At the end of the 1970s he joins the band i Naif, later moving to keyboards. He composes his own pieces and, with them, in 1983 becomes part of the group Alta Quota. Years pass, bands change (Secret World, a Peter Gabriel cover band) and studies deepen, but Naif remains his main band, with which in 2014 they open a concert for Aldo Tagliapietra (ex Orme).
Leodori is therefore a dreamer, someone who lives music from within, with passion and, after years of gestation, “Anima Naif” finally becomes a reality.
The Roman multi‑instrumentalist has also collaborated with the historic fanzine Wonderous Stories; from this you will have understood that his passion is progressive rock, especially the Genesis‑type, and he does not shy away from Neo‑Prog passages from the ’80s.
“Anima Naif” consists of thirteen tracks for a total of seventy‑eight minutes of music, essentially a double album. For its realization he is joined by a large group of well‑known musicians, including Alessandro Corvaglia, Mauro Montobbio, Alessandro Carmassi, Guglielmo Mariotti, Andrea Amici, Filippo Marcheggiani, Stefano Vicarelli and others; the young daughter Federica Leodori also participates on vocals.
“Empty Blue Skies” immediately expresses the author’s sensitivity; through the keyboards he draws emotional, airy passages with a spatial guitar solo that carries a Neo‑Prog feel by Mauro Montobbio (Narrow Pass). Emanuele Telli also plays keyboards. Claudio Braccio’s sax is the classic cherry on top, while the rhythm section is clean with Claudio Braccio on bass and Massimo Moscatelli on drums. Alessandro Carmassi delivers an impeccable performance, never overplaying, perfectly embedded in the basic melodies.
Very attentive to the song formula, the track “A Winter Day Dream” features Alessandro Corvaglia (La Maschera Di Cera, Delirium, Hostonaten, etc.) on vocals. Filippo Marcheggiani also shines on guitar. Paolo Carnelli and Stefano Vicarelli are on keyboards.
“Lonesome Man” introduces the flute of Maria Teresa De Donatis, an air that is once again Neo‑Prog, delicate and at times dreamy. But it is with “Legends” that the first surprise arrives: an instrumental that recalls the fantastical world of Premiata Forneria Marconi, a sonic cavalcade with rhythm changes and many keyboards supporting it. It is the classic piece that a prog fan awaits eagerly, emphatic and majestic like a day‑dream. Mauro Montobbio enriches not only this track but the entire album with his electric guitar and his gentle spirit.
After so much vigorous sonority, “Guardando Le Stelle” restores quiet and serenity, thanks above all to the beautiful voice of Roberta Petteruti. Heart‑wrenching and deep, the song plages the strings of the soul, and don’t be surprised if you find a tear slipping down your face as it happened to me.
“Look At Your Heart” begins with a rhythmic start in the style of Eugenio Finardi; here we are in a context once again different, with the return of Emanuele Brignola on bass and Federica on vocals, a pleasant and flowing Pop‑Rock piece. This demonstrates and underlines Leodori’s broad musical culture.
Another fine vocal performance by Federica appears in the semi‑ballad “Come Un Gabbiano”, where Claudio Braccio’s sax returns as a welcome guest. Another surprise, another territory with “Unity”, which even ventures into A.O.R.
“La Sorgente” returns to the song formula, with flute and easily assimilated melodies, while the instrumental “In The King’s Name” tells a lot of history of the ’80s, a beautiful mix of Marillion and Italian music! Elegant “Only One Day” then moves to “Genesi”, a Prog piece in the style of Jethro Tull from the 1990s/2000s. The closing track is “Dream Is Over”, an excellent example of emotional crescendo that perfectly seals this long journey.
So much substance in “Anima Naif”, a perfect name for music rich in detail, colourful and made with heart. Time rewards and Marco Leodori is a pleasant surprise that should be supported in every way. To the professionals: give light to “Guardando Le Stelle”, a rare gem. MS
