Anche quando il genere Progressive Rock in Italia (allora chiamato Pop) stava vivendo il massimo dello splendore, la splendida regione Sardegna non ha avuto numerosi gruppi storici da annoverare, ma la qualità c’è sempre stata, vediamo ad esempio i Cadmo e i Salis. Negli anni il discorso è mutato sensibilmente, questo stile sonoro ha comunque tenuto accesa la fiamma dell’interesse attraverso band come Yleclipse o i Capside, tanto per fare due nomi. Fra loro si aggira un'altra band che a questo punto della sua esistenza potremmo anche definire storica, gli Entity. Si formano nel 1994 nella provincia di Nuoro dalla scissione del gruppo I Teatro, da un’idea di Mauro Mulas (tastiere) e Gigi Longu (basso, chitarra). Subito nel 1995 registrano un demotape dal titolo “Fantasia”. Dopo svariati cambi di line up si stabilizzano con Mauro Mulas (tastiere), Gigi Longu (basso e chitarra), Marco Panzino (batteria), Marcello Mulas (chitarre) e Sergio Calafiura (voce).
Ricordo con molto piacere il disco realizzato nel 2013 intitolato “Il Falso Centro”, poi personalmente non sono stato più capace di trovare notizie su di loro negli anni a venire. Grazie alla G.T. Music, gli Entity ritornano oggi, per donare nuova veste a un concept album autoprodotto nella fine degli anni ’90 intitolato "Il Naufragio della Speranza", precursore del citato “Falso Centro”. Con l’esperienza passata in questi anni, anche in sede live, l’amalgama accresce e la volontà di risuonare questo lavoro porta a un risultato maturo e consapevole, donando all’opera una freschezza differente, pur mantenendo la spina dorsale degli anni ’70 atta a band come il Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso, per intenderci.
Le dieci tracce contenute nel disco iniziano con “Derealizzazione”, di certo gli amanti di queste sonorità hanno immediatamente di che godere grazie al dialogo fra tastiere e chitarra elettrica, quando subentra il piano poi...
Voglio soffermarmi un attimo sulla voce di Calafiura, finalmente un’adeguata all’altezza della proposta sonora, conosciamo la storia del Prog italiano e non è che abbiamo potuto godere di buone voci, a parte quella dei soliti noti che si contano sulle dita di una mano. Nulla di eccezionale, intendiamoci, tuttavia buona esecutrice di tutti i passaggi fra enfasi e gusto per la melodia tipicamente italica.
Il pianoforte traccia in “Inettitudine” atmosfere delicate e decadenti, quelle che ti fanno partire l’ascolto a occhi chiusi, così la musica s’approccia all’anima con determinata convinzione. Il brano ancora una volta, mostra un’adeguata partecipazione vocale, e non manca il consueto crescendo sonoro, altra arma vincente del Progressive Rock in senso generale. “Cristallo” è un movimento vicino alle ballate della Premiata Forneria Marconi, sensibile e allo stesso tempo impegnato.
Descrivere e capire ogni passaggio di questo concept ritengo che sia un piacere che dovrete scoprire voi stessi, per non rovinarvi tutte le sorprese, e ce ne sono tante!
“Il Naufragio Della Speranza” è quindi un rifacimento, ma lasciatemi dire che qui le nuove arie tracciano nuovi sentieri in cui la storia del Prog italiano s’interseca con la qualità esecutiva e compositiva di questi artisti che, a mio modesto parere, andrebbero rivalutati in maniera più convinta. Non lasciateveli scappare. MS

Even when the Progressive Rock genre in Italy (then called Pop) was experiencing its heyday, the beautiful region of Sardinia did not have many historical bands to count, but the quality was always there, see for example Cadmo and Salis. Over the years the discourse has changed considerably, this sound style has nevertheless kept the flame of interest burning through bands like Yleclipse or Capside, just to name two. Among them lurks another band that at this point in its existence we might even call historical, Entity. They formed in 1994 in the province of Nuoro from the split of the group I Teatro, the brainchild of Mauro Mulas (keyboards) and Gigi Longu (bass, guitar). Immediately in 1995 they record a demotape entitled "Fantasia." After several line up changes they stabilized with Mauro Mulas (keyboards), Gigi Longu (bass and guitar), Marco Panzino (drums), Marcello Mulas (guitars) and Sergio Calafiura (vocals).
I remember with much pleasure the record made in 2013 entitled "Il Falso Centro", then personally I was not able to find any more news about them in the years to come.
Thanks to G.T. Music, Entity returns today to give a new look to a self-produced concept album in the late 1990s titled "Il Naufragio Della Speranza", a precursor to the aforementioned "Il Falso Centro” With the experience passed in these years, including live performances, the amalgamation increases and the willingness to resonate with this work leads to a mature and conscious result, giving the work a different freshness, while maintaining the backbone of the 1970s attached to bands like Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso, to name a few.
The ten tracks contained in the album begin with "Derealizzazione”, certainly lovers of these sounds immediately have something to enjoy thanks to the dialogue between keyboards and electric guitar, when the piano takes over then...
I want to dwell for a moment on Calafiura's vocals, finally an adequate up to the sound proposal, we know the history of Italian Prog and it is not that we could enjoy good voices, apart from that of the usual known ones that can be counted on the fingers of one hand. Nothing exceptional, mind you, nevertheless good performer of all the passages between emphasis and taste for the typically Italian melody.
The piano narrates in "Inettitudine" delicate and decadent atmospheres, the kind that make you start listening with your eyes closed, so the music approaches the soul with determined conviction. The song once again, shows adequate vocal participation, and there is no lack of the usual sonic crescendo, another winning weapon of Progressive Rock in a general sense. "Cristallo" is a movement close to the ballads of Premiata Forneria Marconi, sensitive and at the same time committed.
Describing and understanding each passage of this concept I think is a pleasure you will have to discover for yourself, not to spoil all the surprises, and there are many!
"Il Naufragio Della Speranza" is thus a remake, but let me tell you that here the new tunes trace new paths in which the history of Italian Prog intersects with the executive and compositional quality of these artists who, in my humble opinion, should be re-evaluated in a more convinced way.
