Il nome di Ciro Perrino (tastiere e voce) nell’ambito del Rock Progressivo italiano si è fatto noto sin dal 1976, quando esordisce discograficamente con il suo gruppo Celeste e l’ottimo album “Principe Di Un Giorno”. Trattandosi della metà inoltrata dei ’70, il genere vive i suoi ultimi momenti di gloria per lasciare successivamente campo alla Discoteca, il Punk e ancora dopo alla New Wave, non c’è più campo per la musica per la mente, quella pastorale, ragionata e ricca di passaggi tecnici, anche per questo il progetto viene al momento congelato. Grazie a internet negli anni ’90 ritorna l’interesse su questa musica, così molte band del periodo vintage sentono la volontà di poter dire di nuovo qualcosa a un pubblico più vasto. E’ anche il caso di Celeste che nel 1991 rilascia “Celeste II” e nel 1992 “I Suoni in una Sfera (OST)”, il tutto sempre grazie all’attenta Mellow Records. Ma è nel 2019 che Perrino manifesta una grande ispirazione, inanellando una serie di dischi dall’alta qualità artistica, “Il Risveglio Del Principe” (2019), “Il Principe Del Regno Perduto” (2020), “Celeste With Celestial Symphony Orchestra” (2022) e oggi “Echi di un Futuro Passato”.
Quello che colpisce è il crescendo qualitativo di queste realizzazioni, come per un buon vino rosso che invecchiando migliora la corporatura e il gusto. Oggi assieme a Francesco Bertone (basso), Enzo Cioffi (batteria), Marco Moro (flauto, sax), e Mauro Vero (chitarre) ci raccontano una nuova favola suddivisa in sette brani tutti di lunga e media durata che variano dai sette ai dieci minuti l’uno. Non mancano special guest che rispondono ai nomi di Marco Canepa (piano), Sergio Caputo (violino), Paolo Maffi (sax), e Ines Aliprandi (voce). La copertina dell’album in stile Roger Dean, è affidata a Mauro Degrassi.
Il sound è sempre lo stesso dagli anni ’70 a oggi, ossia incentrato sul Mellotron, flauto e chitarra in primis, ecco che qui gli amanti di queste sonorità già avranno preso nota. Piccole puntate nel Jazz impreziosiscono lo stile che di suo ha già un buon carattere di base.
Ascoltare il brano “Pigmenti” è come salire nella macchina del tempo, solo la buona qualità sonora odierna fa intendere il periodo in cui viviamo. L’andamento jazz con tanto di fiati è elegante, mentre il punto di forza risiede negli arrangiamenti ben curati e nell’immancabile mellotron. “Sottili Armonie” è una mini suite di undici minuti aperta da un piano malinconico e caldo in cui la ritmica riporta alla memoria i passaggi di certi Pink Floyd datati nel loro momento più intimistico, periodo “Whis You Were Here”. Il movimento è un buon palcoscenico per gli assolo strumentali che si danno staffetta fra flauto, chitarra e basso, le emozioni che scaturiscono sono quindi ad alti livelli.
“Aspetti Astratti” è uno dei punti gradevoli del disco, fra psichedelia un bell’assolo di basso e di sax. Tutto sembra apparentemente semplice, in realtà si evince un grande lavoro di ricerca per le melodie. Con “Attese Sottese” il panorama diventa pastorale, grazie soprattutto agli arpeggi della chitarra acustica che dialoga con il piano e il violoncello che fa da base. Il ritmo sale e sul più bello ecco nuovamente giungere il sax che fa vetrina di se. Qui nel pentagramma c’è tanto mestiere!
"Misteri Evoluti" è maggiormente Prog, tanto da farmi ricordare certe Orme degli anni ’70. Il top si raggiunge attraverso “Madrigale”, straziante in certi passaggi e impreziosita dalla voce di Ines Aliprandi, vero e proprio strumento fra gli strumenti. "Circonvoluzioni" ha un grande uso di tastiere, fra mellotron, piano e hammond, tanta qualità espressa in pochi minuti che concludono l’album. “Echi Di Un Futuro Passato” è un disco piacevolissimo, da ascoltare in silenzio, magari in cuffia per assaporarne al meglio le sfumature. Ancora una volta Celeste riesce a incantare, e questa è senza ombra di dubbio la musica che ti fa stare bene. MS

The name of Ciro Perrino (keyboards and vocals) in the sphere of Italian Progressive Rock has been well known since 1976, when he made his discographic debut with his band Celeste and the excellent album "Principe Di Un Giorno". Being the mid-late 70s, the genre lives its last moments of glory to leave later field to Disco, Punk and still later to New Wave, there is no more field for music for the mind, the pastoral, reasoned and rich in technical passages, also for this reason the project is frozen at the moment. Thanks to the Internet in the 1990s interest in this music returns, so many bands from the vintage period feel the desire to be able to say something again to a wider audience. This is also the case for Celeste, which in 1991 released "Celeste II" and in 1992 "Sounds in a Sphere (OST)", all again thanks to the attentive Mellow Records. But it is in 2019 that Perrino manifests great inspiration, ringing up a series of records of high artistic quality, "Il Risveglio Del Principe" (2019), "Il Principe Del Regno Perduto" (2020), "Celeste With Celestial Symphony Orchestra" (2022) and today "Echoes of a Future Past".
What is striking is the qualitative crescendo of these achievements, as with a good red wine that gets better in body and taste as it ages. Today together with Francesco Bertone (bass), Enzo Cioffi (drums), Marco Moro (flute, sax), and Mauro Vero (guitars) they tell us a new fable divided into seven tracks all of long and medium duration ranging from seven to ten minutes each. There is no shortage of special guests who answer to the names of Marco Canepa (piano), Sergio Caputo (violin), Paolo Maffi (sax), and Ines Aliprandi (vocals). The album cover, in Roger Dean style, is by Mauro Degrassi.
The sound is always the same from the 1970s to the present, that is, centered on the Mellotron, flute and guitar in primis, here lovers of these sounds will already have taken note. Small dabs in Jazz embellish the style, which in itself already has a good basic character.
Listening to the track "Pigmenti" is like climbing into the time machine, only the good sound quality of today hints at the period in which we live. The jazzy progression with lots of horns is elegant, while the strong point lies in the well-rendered arrangements and the ever-present mellotron. "Sottili Armonie" is an eleven-minute mini-suite opened by a melancholy, warm piano in which the rhythm brings to mind passages from certain dated Pink Floyd at their most intimate, "Whis You Were Here" period.
The movement is a good stage for instrumental solos that relay between flute, guitar and bass, the emotions that arise are thus at a high level.
"Aspetti Astratti" is one of the pleasing points of the record, between psychedelia a nice bass and sax solo. Everything seems seemingly simple, in fact a great deal of research work for the melodies is evident. With "Attese Sottese", the scenery becomes pastoral, thanks mainly to the arpeggios of the acoustic guitar that dialogues with the piano and the cello that acts as a base. The pace picks up and at the most beautiful here again comes the sax that showcases itself. There is a lot of craft here in the stave!
"Misteri Evoluti" is more Prog, so much so that it reminds me of certain Orme from the 1970s. The top is reached through "Madrigale”, heartbreaking in certain passages and embellished by Ines Aliprandi's voice, a true instrument among instruments. "Circonvoluzioni" has great use of keyboards, between mellotron, piano and hammond, so much quality expressed in a few minutes that conclude the album. "Echi Di Un Futuro Passato" is a very pleasant record, to be listened to in silence, perhaps on headphones to best savor its nuances. Once again Celeste manages to enchant, and this is without a shadow of a doubt music that makes you feel good. MS
