L’incontro fra Stefano Giaccone alias Tony Buddenbrook e la band Airportman, avviene quasi per caso in quel di Canelli grazie all’amico Giovanni Risso, e conduce ad un connubio artistico profondo. Giaccone con il sax, ha militato nei primi anni ’80 nella storica band Post Punk e Hardcore Folk di Torino i Franti, ma si può definire anche poeta e uomo di teatro. La sua scrittura, non soltanto musicale, è profonda e basata su molte letture concernenti richiami a personaggi storici che sfociano prevalentemente nel mondo della sinistra e non soltanto.
L’appellativo che si è dato, ossia Tony Buddenbrook, è estrapolato dal romanzo di Thomas Mann “I Buddenbrook. Decadenza Di Una Famiglia”, dove Tony è il personaggio femminile al centro del racconto e ultima a mantenere il nome della sua stirpe.
Giaccone nasce a Los Angeles (USA) nel 1959, si trasferisce a Torino nel 1966 e inizia a suonare la chitarra e il sax nel 1973 fra Folk Rock, Jazz, Punk e Avant-garde Rock. Nel 1998 Lascia Torino per l’Inghilterra, proprio nella vigilia dell’uscita dell’album “Le Stesse Cose Ritornano”, un lavoro immerso nell’introspezione cantautorale ricercata e malinconica. All’ascolto si possono evincere influenze di Nick Drake, John Cale, Tim Buckley e Claudio Lolli.
Il 21 gennaio del 2023 al Teatro Magda Oliviero Di Saluzzo avviene l’incontro live fra Giaccone e Airportman, conducente a un’esibizione che ripropone integralmente l’album “Le Stesse Cose Ritornano” e non soltanto, infatti lo spettacolo è suddiviso in due atti, il primo s’intitola “Overture – Le Cose Diverse Rimangono”, il secondo “Tony Buddenbrook – Le Stesse Cose Ritornano”.
Nel primo atto suonano Lalli (Marinella Ollino – voce), Stefano Risso (contrabbasso), Stefano Giaccone (chitarra, voce) e Allius, nel secondo Giovanni Risso (chitarra), Marco Lamberti (chitarra, tastiere, basso), Mansueta Cinzia Mureddu (violoncello), Diego Dutto (flicorno), Michele Gazich (violino), Teresa Allegretti e Stefano Giaccone.
Le atmosfere del teatro si fondono in un unico corpo con la rappresentazione, tanto che durante l’ascolto si può intuire anche l’odore del palco, tanto ci si è immersi dentro.
Un intro recitato immerge lo spettatore nell’amaro contesto, tre amiche, un’ultima storia vissuta insieme. Suoni grevi ammantano l’atmosfera, il racconto è iniziato. “L’Uomo Sulla Luna” sprofonda l’animo in abissi onirici fra archi, pianoforte e sax in una sorta di connubio dalle caratteristiche inquiete. La cadenza vocale ricade negli anni ’70, drammatica, pensierosa e consapevole. Un acquarello “Il Sarto”, e non ci sono pezzi minori nello spettacolo, tutti hanno un’anima profonda e vita propria. Fondamentale il contributo della band Airportman.
“Le Stesse Cose Ritornano” ha il titolo che rimanda ad un capolavoro della letteratura tedesca, “L’Uomo Senza Qualità” di Robert Musil. La rappresentazione di un’ora abbondante è da ascoltare in perfetto silenzio e non mi vergogno nel dire che mi è scesa anche qualche lacrima.
Questo spettacolo è il coronamento della musica che non esiste quasi più, un’isola felice dove il cuore si amalgama con la mente in uno sposalizio che spero nell’imminente futuro crei nuova prole. MS

The meeting between Stefano Giaccone aka Tony Buddenbrook and the band Airportman, happens almost by chance in Canelli thanks to his friend Giovanni Risso, and leads to a profound artistic union. Giaccone on saxophone, played in the early 1980s in the historic Post Punk and Hardcore Folk band from Turin the Franti, but he can also be defined as a poet and man of the theater. His writing, not only musical, is profound and based on many readings concerning references to historical figures that flow mainly from the world of the left and beyond.
The appellation he gave himself, namely Tony Buddenbrook, is extrapolated from Thomas Mann's novel "The Buddenbrooks. Decadence Of A Family", where Tony is the female character at the center of the story and last to keep her lineage name.
Giaccone was born in Los Angeles (USA) in 1959, moved to Turin in 1966 and began playing guitar and sax in 1973 between Folk Rock, Jazz, Punk and Avant-garde Rock. In 1998, he left Turin for England, just on the eve of the release of the album "Le Stesse Cose Ritornano", a work immersed in refined and melancholy songwriting introspection. On listening, influences of Nick Drake, John Cale, Tim Buckley and Claudio Lolli can be discerned.
On Jan. 21, 2023, at the Magda Oliviero Di Saluzzo Theater the live meeting between Giaccone and Airportman takes place, leading to a performance that replays the album "Le Stesse Cose Ritornano" in its entirety and not only, in fact the show is divided into two acts, the first is titled "Overture - Le Cose Diverse Rimangono", the second "Tony Buddenbrook - Le Stesse Cose Ritornano".
The first act features Lalli (Marinella Ollino - vocals), Stefano Risso (double bass), Stefano Giaccone (guitar, vocals) and Allius; the second act features Giovanni Risso (guitar), Marco Lamberti (guitar, keyboards, bass), Mansueta Cinzia Mureddu (cello), Diego Dutto (flugelhorn), Michele Gazich (violin), Teresa Allegretti and Stefano Giaccone.
The atmospheres of the theater merge into a single body with the performance, so much so that while listening you can even sense the smell of the stage, so much so that you are immersed in it.
A recited intro immerses the audience in the bitter context, three friends, one last story lived together.
Rough sounds cloak the atmosphere; the tale has begun. "The Man on the Moon" plunges the soul into dreamlike abysses between strings, piano and sax in a kind of combination with restless characteristics. The vocal cadence falls back into the 1970s, dramatic, thoughtful and self-conscious. A watercolor "The Tailor", and there are no minor pieces in the show, all have a deep soul and life of their own. Fundamental is the contribution of the band Airportman.
"The Same Things Come Back" has a title that refers to a masterpiece of German literature, Robert Musil's "The Man Without Qualities". The hour-long performance is to be listened to in perfect silence, and I am not ashamed to say that I even shed a few tears.
This performance is the crowning achievement of music that hardly exists anymore, a happy island where the heart amalgamates with the mind in a marriage that I hope in the near future will create new offspring. MS
