Gli anni ’70 nel Rock Progressivo Italiano molto spesso hanno nascosto gemme sonore, con tirature limitate che sono divenute territorio di caccia per i più affezionati al genere. La vita di molte di queste band è stata breve, un album come suggello della propria esistenza o poco più, anche per questo il valore di certi vinili ha superato cifre di certo non abbordabili per tutti i portafogli. Sono esistite anche band che non hanno avuto quest’opportunità, a causa di una mancanza d’interesse da parte dei discografici (ricordate poi che non c’era internet), specialmente dalla metà degli anni ’70, quando il genere cominciava a sopirsi, quindi la loro valvola di sfogo è risultata essere l’attività live.
Questo è ciò che è accaduto anche alla band comasca Stratus, formatasi nell’ormai lontano 1974. Con gli anni diventano gruppo di punta nei dancing del nord Italia fra cover di Beatles e altro ancora, sino allo scioglimento avvenuto dopo diversi cambi di line up nel 1982. In cantiere hanno sempre avuto un concept album intitolato “Teschio Del Mondo”, con tematiche spirituali ed ecologiche, ma mai realizzato. Nel 2020, dopo ben quarant’anni di pausa, il progetto viene rispolverato, grazie anche all’interesse di cui gode oggi il genere, il nome muta in Spectrvm e sono composti da Frank Lazzari (organo, tastiere, voce), i fratelli Jordan Bozzolan (batteria, percussioni, voce) e Daniele Bozzolan (basso, chitarre, pianoforte, voce), Renato Olivo (chitarre, voce) e Alberto Zanella (tastiere, pianoforte, voce).
Ovviamente le sonorità sono la gioia di chi ha vissuto con consapevolezza e gioia quegli anni del massimo splendore, il classico Prog italiano con riferimenti al mondo inglese, tuttavia rimanipolato con la nostra verve mediterranea. Ecco perciò richiami ad Alphataurus, Campo Di Marte, Orme, Pooh, fra grandi nomi e quelli meno conosciuti.
L’album si presenta in confezione Jewel Box ed è formato da otto canzoni a iniziare da “Anima”, dove tutte le descrizioni fatte sino ad ora si congiungono sopra le tastiere di Frank Lazzari. Uno sbalzo temporale che lascia pochi dubbi sull’intento musicale. Cambi di tempo, più voci e melodie orecchiabili sempre gradevoli sono le carte vincenti dei Spectrvm, non mancano neppure buoni assolo strumentali, di cui ho particolarmente gradito quelli di chitarra che richiamano il miglior periodo Pink Floyd. Un organo apre “Bestia”, brano Rock, spesso elettrico dove la formula schiaffo o bacio è presa come esempio, gli Spectrvm sanno coccolare l’ascoltatore ma anche colpirlo al momento giusto.
“Nessuno Piange Nessuno Canta” è la canzone più lunga del disco, con i suoi otto minuti abbondanti, ed anche la mia preferita grazie ad un buon equilibro fra passato e presente, qui più marcato, poi quell’Hammond…
“Sogni Di Pietra” ha un inizio introspettivo, dove il basso di Bozzolan mette in evidenza le proprie caratteristiche, per poi svilupparsi in classiche aperture solari e strumentali come noi italiani sappiamo fare bene. La title track è uno dei momenti più ampi del disco, la voce Rock lo rende molto appetibile. In “Crisalide” si denota una maggiore attenzione per le partiture vocali e melodiche, mentre “Prigione” è un pezzo tipicamente italiano, “Templum” invece è in stile Procol Harum. Questo dunque è un disco rivolto in principale modo ai suddetti estimatori del genere, tutti gli altri probabilmente troveranno queste sonorità obsolete, anche se le melodie sono consigliate a tutti gli amanti della musica in senso generale. Bene hanno fatto i comaschi a rispolverare questo lavoro interessante altrimenti perso nel dimenticatoio, sarebbe stato un vero peccato.  MS

The 1970s in Italian Progressive Rock very often hid sonic gems, with limited runs becoming hunting territory for those most fond of the genre. The lives of many of these bands were short, one album as a seal of existence or little more, which is also why the value of certain vinyls exceeded figures certainly not affordable for all wallets. There have also existed bands that did not have this opportunity, due to a lack of interest on the part of record companies (remember then that there was no Internet), especially since the mid-1970s, when the genre was beginning to sop up, so their outlet turned out to be live activity.
This is what also happened to the Como band Stratus, formed back in 1974. Over the years they became a leading group in northern Italian dance halls between Beatles covers and more, until they disbanded after several line up changes in 1982. They always had a concept album in the works titled "Skull Of The World," with spiritual and ecological themes, but never realized.
In 2020, after a forty-year hiatus, the project is dusted off, thanks also to the interest the genre enjoys today, the name changes to Spectrvm and they are composed of Frank Lazzari (organ, keyboards, vocals), brothers Jordan Bozzolan (drums, percussion, vocals) and Daniele Bozzolan (bass, guitars, piano, vocals), Renato Olivo (guitars, vocals) and Alberto Zanella (keyboards, piano, vocals).
Obviously the sounds are the joy of those who lived with awareness and joy those years of the heyday, the classic Italian Prog with references to the English world, however rehashed with our Mediterranean verve. Here, therefore, are references to Alphataurus, Campo Di Marte, Orme, Pooh, among big names and lesser known ones.
The album comes in Jewel Box packaging and consists of eight songs starting with "Anima," where all the descriptions made so far come together over Frank Lazzari's keyboards. A time shift that leaves little doubt about the musical intent. Tempo changes, multiple vocals and catchy melodies that are always pleasant are Spectrvm's trump cards; there is no shortage of good instrumental solos either, of which I particularly liked the guitar ones that recall the best Pink Floyd period.
An organ opens "Bestia” an often electric Rock song where the slap or kiss formula is taken as an example, Spectrvm know how to cuddle the listener but also hit him at the right time.
" Nessuno Piange Nessuno Canta " is the longest song on the record, at a good eight minutes, and also my favorite thanks to a good balance between past and present, more pronounced here, then that Hammond...
"Sogni Di Pietra" has an introspective beginning, where Bozzolan's bass highlights, then develops into classic sunny and instrumental openings as we Italians do so well. The title track is one of the album's most expansive moments, the Rock vocals making it very palatable. In "Crisalide" one denotes more attention to vocal and melodic scores, while "Prigione" is a typically Italian piece, "Templum" on the other hand is Procol Harum style. This therefore is a record aimed primarily at the aforementioned admirers of the genre, all others will probably find these sounds obsolete, although the melodies are recommended to all music lovers in a general sense. Good thing the Como people did to dust off this interesting work otherwise lost in oblivion, it would have been a real shame. MS
