Non sono di certo l’unico ad aver pensato che solo la musica potrebbe salvare l’uomo da se stesso. Linguaggio comune a tutti, la musica (specialmente il Rock) come diceva il grande Pete Townshend dei The Who “…Non eliminerà i tuoi problemi. Ma ti permetterà di ballarci sopra.”.
Mi piace vederla così anche se è una utopia, e nel mio vagabondare nei decenni nello sconfinato territorio sonoro, mi sono reso conto che il bene ed il male sono l’argomento più trattato dagli artisti.
L’ennesimo esempio giunge dal chitarrista ed ingegnere del suono vicentino Beppe Cunico attraverso il secondo album della carriera intitolato “From Now On”. La musica proposta si sposta dai maestri degli anni ’70 come ad esempio Peter Gabriel o Pink Floyd, a quelli più attuali come Steven Wilson, il tutto prendendo spunti dagl’anni ’80. Questo totale approccio sonoro porta a far comprendere anche la cultura di Cunico, approfondita a 360 gradi nel tempo, in parole povere, un vero e proprio “open mind”, come dovrebbe essere un fans del Progressive Rock in senso generale.
Il bene ed il male in questo album composto di dieci brani, è rappresentato da “Mian” e “Egon”. Attraverso la loro storia, trapela la presa di coscienza su quale sia la via più giusta per stare in armonia con sani principi, a discapito delle falsità che minacciano costantemente il genere umano. Sin dalle prime note di “Slow Breath Coming” si possono estrapolare le succitate influenze, attraverso un sound scuro e roccioso, qui Mian (il bene) è calpestato da chi governa il mondo. Il sound è apparentemente minimale per poi lanciarsi su buone coralità ed un assolo di chitarra davvero godibile. Sani principi fanno risorgere Mian in “Non Dystopic Future”, inizialmente molto Porcupine Tree style, una delle passioni più grandi di Cunico. La ricerca per un ritornello orecchiabile è sempre presente nella musica, e questo è un fattore assolutamente positivo che tende a far ricordare il pezzo all’ascoltatore nel tempo.
Rispetto al primo album “Passion, Love, Heart And Soul”, già con questi due brani si denota una crescita del cantautore vicentino, sia a livello compositivo che di registrazione del suono.
La psichedelia è sempre dietro l’angolo viste le basi, e riesce a rendere le atmosfere spesso leggiadre ed ariose, come nel caso di “Hidden World”, un augurio per un mondo migliore dedicato al figlio Paolo. La speranza si espande anche per l’umanità intera con “Going Beyond”, canzone Rock dall’andamento maggiormente solare. Le atmosfere diventano  rilassate attraverso “Love Remain The Same”, segue “Misunderstanding”, canzone dedicata al produttore Sandro Franchin dove la band di Steven Wilson fa nuovamente e prepotentemente capolino. In “Non Sense” scaturisce da parte di Cunico un analisi su come la storia c’insegna a non fare guerre. Godibile la ballabile “Shake The Human Beings”, mentre “Awakening” narra l’avvenuta presa di coscienza verso una vita migliore, dove ancora una volta un intro psichedelico dona serenità all’insieme. Il disco si chiude con un piano delicato, “No One Can Erase This Love” è una ballata sensibile e moderna.
La musica di Beppe Cunico ha di base l’energia, la positività, così la voglia di uscire da certi canoni pur restandone legata indelebilmente attraverso melodie facili da ricordare. Un breve viaggio in cui anche noi possiamo essere protagonisti. MS

I am certainly not the only one who thought that only music could save man from himself. A language common to all, music (especially Rock) as the great Pete Townshend of The Who said "...It won't get rid of your problems. But it will allow you to dance on them."
I like to see it that way even if it is a utopia, and in my wandering through the decades in the boundless sonic territory, I have come to realize that good and bad is the topic most dealt with by artists.
Yet another example comes from Vicenza guitarist and sound engineer Beppe Cunico through his second career album entitled "From Now On." The music on offer moves from the masters of the 1970s such as Peter Gabriel or Pink Floyd, for example, to more current ones such as Steven Wilson, all taking cues from the 1980s. This total sonic approach also leads to an understanding of Cunico's culture, which has deepened 360 degrees over time, simply put, a true "open mind," as a Progressive Rock fan in a general sense should be.
The good and the bad in this album consisting of ten tracks is represented by "Mian" and "Egon." Through their story, there transpires an awareness of what is the right way to be in harmony with sound principles, at the expense of the falsehoods that constantly threaten mankind.
From the very first notes of "Slow Breath Coming" one can extrapolate the aforementioned influences, through a dark and rocky sound, here Mian (the good) is trampled by those who rule the world. The sound is seemingly minimal and then launches into good choruses and a really enjoyable guitar solo. Sound principles resurrect Mian in "Non Dystopic Future," initially very Porcupine Tree style, one of Cunico's greatest passions. The search for a catchy refrain is always present in the music, and this is an absolutely positive factor that tends to make the listener remember the song over time.
Compared to the first album "Passion, Love, Heart And Soul," already with these two tracks one can denote a growth of the singer-songwriter from Vicenza, both compositionally and in terms of sound recording.
Psychedelia is always around the corner given the underpinnings, and he manages to make the atmospheres often graceful and airy, as in the case of "Hidden World," a wish for a better world dedicated to his son Paolo. Hope also expands for all mankind with "Going Beyond," a more sunny-sounding Rock song. Atmospheres become relaxed through "Love Remain The Same," followed by "Misunderstanding," a song dedicated to producer Sandro Franchin where Steven Wilson's band once again makes an overbearing appearance.
In "Non Sense" springs from Cunico an analysis of how history teaches us not to wage wars. Enjoyable is the danceable "Shake The Human Beings," while "Awakening" narrates the coming of age toward a better life, where once again a psychedelic intro lends serenity to the whole. The album closes with a delicate piano, "No One Can Erase This Love" is a sensitive and modern ballad.
Beppe Cunico's music is based on energy, positivity, thus the desire to break out of certain canons while remaining indelibly bound by them through easy-to-remember melodies. A short journey in which we too can be protagonists. MS
