Claudio Milano per chi vi scrive è una vecchia conoscenza, ho avuto modo e la fortuna di poter seguire la carriera di questo bravissimo ricercatore vocale, compositore, attore e musicoterapista eclettico nel corso del tempo. Un’abbondante fonte d’idee ha accompagnato le sue realizzazioni provenienti da numerosi progetti e collaborazioni quali NichelOdeon, InSonar, Adython Project e altre ancora. E’ stato vincitore del premio “Omaggio A Demetrio Stratos” nel 2010 e poi Progawards del 2008 e 2010 oltre che “Artefatto – Motus Urbis” (2011-2012). Difficile nominare tutti gli artisti con cui ha collaborato, alcuni nomi sono Walter Calloni, Gian Paolo Tofani (Area), Ares Tavolazzi (Area) e Luca Casiraghi. Performer del teatro della voce, Milano si dedica anche alla musica medioevale e poi al Folk, Rock, Avanguarde, Elettronica, Ambient, Jazz Fusion e Classica antica. Anche la lingua per il cantato non è sempre la stessa, variando dall’italiano al tedesco, il greco, il latino, il francese, dialetti, grammelot in stile dario Fo e medievale.
Essendo un personalissimo scrutatore della musica, l’artista viene anche da me nominato e intervistato nell’enciclopedia “Progressive Rock Italiano 1980 – 2013” (Arcana), nella quale dimostra tutta la sua cultura riguardo all’approccio sia vocale sia fisico alla musica. Tutto quello che nel corso della carriera artistica ha realizzato, non è di certo banale, un approccio volutamente ricercato dettato sicuramente dalla curiosità oltre che da una grande ispirazione sorta dall’amore che infonde in tutto ciò che è suono. La Music Force mette a segno un bel bersaglio relegando nella scuderia Claudio Milano, se vogliamo, possiamo inserirlo quindi nel contesto Progressive Rock grazie alla suddetta voglia di sperimentare.
Numerosi i teatri girati dal cantante, in altrettante date dal vivo che qui in questo ricco doppio cd “ManifestAzioni” sono immortalati in tutta la loro freschezza oltre che sincerità. In un triplice formato cartonato contenente il classico libretto in cui si possono evincere i credits oltre che tutte le informazioni concernenti i casi, ci sono belle foto che ritraggono Milano nelle numerose interpretazioni. L’artwork che mi richiama certi lavori della storica Cramps è di Niccolò Clemente mentre il booklet è per mano di Amerigo Latagliata.
Le prestazioni sono scaglionate nel tempo, tutte mai edite tranne “Amanti In Guerra”. Entrare nel mondo di Claudio Milano è come perdersi in un labirinto cromatico fatto di chiaroscuri e colori secondo le esigenze di testo. I brani sono estratti da concerti che vanno dal 2011 a oggi.
Non si può certamente fare la disamina brano per brano perché servirebbe un testo biblico per realizzare il tutto, però vengo a sottolineare gli estratti che più mi hanno colpito da quello degli Area Open Project, sempre taglienti e alla ricerca della destabilizzazione, il pezzo in questione s’intitola “Per Causa – Nostra” dove i vocalizzi si susseguono proprio come ha saputo fare il mai troppo compianto Demetrio Stratos. Il lavoro alla chitarra di Tofani è devastante oltre che simpaticamente dedicato al brano “Apache”.  Seguono quattro pezzi de i Sincopatici dove Milano si dedica anche a canti sciamani oltre che polifonici, come nel caso specifico dell’intro di “Che Il Piacere E’ Peccato?”. La capacità di modulare e plasmare le corde vocali secondo i casi è davvero stupefacente, a dimostrazione di un lungo studio personale che lascia intuire sia lo sforzo, sia l’estro. Seguono due brani storici di NichelOdeon, “Amanti In Guerra” e “Secca In Festa”, malinconico il primo e delicato il secondo. Il progetto InSonar è rappresentato da “Gallia#4”, le registrazioni sono qualitativamente ottime grazie al Sound Designer Paolo Siconolfi. La conclusione del cd1 è un tributo a Claudio Rocchi, sentito e sincero nella narrazione e nelle constatazioni del caso. Il secondo disco ottico racchiude altre perle, inizia subito “Madre Pagana”, sola voce e a seguire “Per Causa - Nostra pt 2” assieme a Gerardo Ferrara e Paolo Tofani che ritroviamo anche in “Incontro – Medley”. Strepitosa interpretazione in “Cramars Marochins Pt 2”, la voce che duetta e vibra assieme al violoncello fra le parole di Leonardo Zanier figura di grande rilievo nella storia dell'emigrazione italiana del secondo dopoguerra purtroppo spentosi nel 2017. Ricca di suoni e colori la suite “Da La Leggenda Di Zlatarog: Identità/Claps” e il resto lascio alla vostra curiosità.
Questo monumentale “ManifestAzioni” trapela d’amore per la band Area, anche nel titolo oltre che nell’artwork e nei suoni, ma c’è molto di più, qui risiede l’anima di un artista che non sa cosa sia scendere a compromessi. Oggi come oggi è una pazzia stare fuori dai canoni dell’ovvio. In una società dove l’essere uguale tranquillizza gridare con personalità il proprio essere quasi spaventa, ma a mio modo d’intendere le cose c’è bisogno di uno, dieci, centomila Claudio Milano! Claudio Milano for the writer is an old acquaintance, I have had the opportunity and the good fortune to be able to follow the career of this very talented vocal researcher, composer, actor and eclectic music therapist over time. An abundant source of ideas has accompanied his accomplishments from numerous projects and collaborations such as NichelOdeon, InSonar, Adython Project and others. He was winner of the "Homage To Demetrio Stratos" award in 2010 and then Progawards of 2008 and 2010 as well as "Artefact - Motus Urbis" (2011-2012). Difficult to name all the artists he has collaborated with, some names are Walter Calloni, Gian Paolo Tofani (Area), Ares Tavolazzi (Area) and Luca Casiraghi. A performer of vocal theater, Milan also devotes himself to medieval music and then to Folk, Rock, Avant-garde, Electronic, Ambient, Jazz Fusion and Early Classical. Even the language for singing is not always the same, varying from Italian to German, Greek, Latin, French, dialects, Dario Fo-style grammelot and medieval.
Being a very personal scrutinizer of music, the artist is also named and interviewed by me in the encyclopedia "Italian Progressive Rock 1980 - 2013" (Arcana), in which he demonstrates all his culture regarding both vocal and physical approach to music. Everything he has accomplished over the course of his artistic career is certainly not trivial, a deliberately researched approach surely dictated by curiosity as well as a great deal of inspiration born of the love he instills in everything that is sound. Music Force scores a nice target by relegating Claudio Milano to the Claudio Milano stable, if you will, we can then place him in the Progressive Rock context thanks to the aforementioned desire to experiment.
Numerous theaters shot by the singer, in as many live dates that here in this rich double CD "ManifestAzioni" are immortalized in all their freshness as well as sincerity. In a triple hardback format containing the classic booklet in which the credits as well as all the information concerning the cases can be evinced, there are beautiful photos depicting Milan in the numerous performances.
The artwork that reminds me of certain works by historic Cramps is by Niccolò Clemente while the booklet is at the hands of Amerigo Latagliata.
The performances are staggered in time, all never edited except "Amanti In Guerra." Entering Claudio Milano's world is like getting lost in a chromatic labyrinth made of chiaroscuro and colors according to the needs of the lyrics. The songs are excerpts from concerts ranging from 2011 to the present.
It is certainly not possible to do the track-by-track examination because it would take a biblical text to accomplish it all, however I come to point out the excerpts that struck me the most from the one by Area Open Project, always edgy and in search of destabilization, the piece in question is titled "Per Causa - Nostra" where the vocals follow one another just as the never too late Demetrio Stratos knew how to do. Tofani's guitar work is devastating as well as sympathetically dedicated to the track "Apache."  This is followed by four pieces by the Syncopaths where Milan also engages in shamanic as well as polyphonic chanting, as in the specific case of the intro to "That Pleasure Is Sin?" The ability to modulate and shape the vocal chords as appropriate is truly amazing, demonstrating a long personal study that hints at both effort and flair. Two historic NickelOdeon songs follow, "Amanti In Guerra" and "Secca In Festa," melancholy the former and delicate the latter. The InSonar project is represented by "Gallia#4," the recordings are qualitatively excellent thanks to Sound Designer Paolo Siconolfi. The conclusion of cd1 is a tribute to Claudio Rocchi, heartfelt and sincere in the narration and findings of the case. The second optical disc encompasses other gems, beginning immediately with "Madre Pagana," solo vocals and followed by "Per Causa - Nostra pt 2" together with Gerardo Ferrara and Paolo Tofani who we also find in "Incontro - Medley." Stunning performance in "Cramars Marochins Pt 2," the voice dueting and vibrating together with the cello among the words of Leonardo Zanier a major figure in the history of Italian emigration after World War II who unfortunately passed away in 2017. Rich in sound and color is the suite "From The Legend Of Zlatarog: Identity/Claps" and the rest I leave to your curiosity.
This monumental "ManifestActions" seeps with love for the band Area, even in the title as well as the artwork and sounds, but there is much more, here lies the soul of an artist who does not know what it is to compromise. In this day and age it is madness to stand outside the canons of the obvious. In a society where being the same tranquilizes to shout with personality one's being almost frightens, but in my way of understanding things there is a need for one, ten, a hundred thousand Claudio Milano!
