Se siete alla ricerca di un disco dalle sonorità moderne, scorrevole, ricercato e con una bella voce femminile, gli italiani Raised By Haze con questo debutto intitolato “Touch The Sky” fanno al caso vostro. Il sound è ricco d’influenze che derivano dal Metal, dal Blues, e dal Rock anni ’70, un caleidoscopio sonoro che può interessare a tutti coloro che seguono band come Opeth, Pink Floyd, Linkin Park e molto altro ancora.
Il quintetto formato dal fondatore Gabriele Robotti (chitarra), con Valentina Tesio (voce), Marco Ferraris (batteria), Leonardo Barbierato (basso), e Giancarlo Sansone (tastiere), vede il prestigioso ospite Derek Sherinan (ex Dream Theater, Sons Of Apollo) nel brano “Feeling Myself”. Il disco è anticipato dal singolo “Burn It Up” ed è composto di otto brani per una durata di quasi quaranta minuti, a testimonianza della volontà di badare al sodo piuttosto che immergersi in soluzioni logorroiche, tutto questo a favore della canzone che riesce per freschezza a rimanere incastonata nella memoria.
Il cantato in lingua inglese recita testi scritti dalla stessa cantante torinese Valentina Tesio, narranti vicissitudini della vita, valore aggiunto di quest’album che di cose da raccontare ne ha a profusione. Un altro pregio di “Touch The Sky” è l’ottima produzione che esalta i suoni rendendo gli strumenti nitidi e ben distinti fra di loro. La ritmica è pressoché perfetta sin da “First Side”, canzone al limite del Metal Prog alla Dream Theater che lascia trapelare fra le note le spiccate caratteristiche tecniche dei componenti. La chitarra elettrica si lancia in un interessante assolo sostenuto ed energico fra cambi di tempo e un’interpretazione vocale intensa. Ci pensa il singolo “Burn It Up” a mettere in chiaro le caratteristiche della band, qui dentro convivono tutte le coordinate per entrare a pieno nel loro mondo sonoro fatto di colori ma anche di ritornelli da cantare e godere a pieno per freschezza. Ancora una volta la voce è perfetta interprete, non a caso la Tesio è stata anche concorrente ai talent “Tu Si Qué Vales” e “Amici”.
E veniamo al brano in cui Sherinan presta la sua opera, ossia “Feeling Myself”, qui i Raised By Haze mostrano un altro lato del loro sound, quello rivolto agli anni ’70 con un groove accattivante a tratti irresistibile. Ancora una volta la chitarra di Gabriele Robotti lascia il segno a metà passata del brano, riportando ai giorni nostri l’ascoltatore.
Un arpeggio apre “Freedom”, brano maggiormente introspettivo rispetto quanto ascoltato sino ad ora, pur avendo all’interno molta energia e un giro di coralità a infarcire il tutto. Si vira verso il sound ancor più moderno grazie al quasi Rap/Funky di “So Hot Right Now”, questo è fra i movimenti più semplici dell’album.
“God Ki” riporta nel binario Metal Prog l’ascolto, lanciando adrenalina a profusione, uno strumentale dove si possono apprezzare le qualità balistiche dei musicisti, questo risulta essere uno dei brani migliori dell’album per i gusti di chi vi scrive. “Prediction” è una ballata attuale, la title track mostra stile, e la conclusiva “Post Credits Scene” ha parvenze sonore vicine a quelle di Steve Wilson.
In definitiva, “Touch The Sky” è un esordio con i fiocchi e Raised By Haze è un nome da tenere sottocchio perché sono certo che nel tempo ci delizieranno ancora, intanto già apprezzo. MS

If you are looking for a record with modern sounds, smooth, refined and with a beautiful female voice, the Italians Raised By Haze with this debut entitled "Touch The Sky" are for you. The sound is full of influences derived from Metal, Blues, and 70s Rock, a kaleidoscope of sound that may be of interest to all those who follow bands such as Opeth, Pink Floyd, Linkin Park, and more.
The quintet formed by founder Gabriele Robotti (guitar), with Valentina Tesio (vocals), Marco Ferraris (drums), Leonardo Barbierato (bass), and Giancarlo Sansone (keyboards), features prestigious guest Derek Sherinan (former Dream Theater, Sons Of Apollo) on the track "Feeling Myself." The album is anticipated by the single "Burn It Up" and is composed of eight tracks for a duration of almost forty minutes, testifying to the desire to mind the hard stuff rather than diving into logorrheic solutions, all in favor of the song that succeeds by freshness to stick in the memory.
The English-language vocals recite lyrics written by Turin-based singer Valentina Tesio herself, narrating vicissitudes of life, an added value of this album that has plenty of things to tell. Another merit of "Touch The Sky" is the excellent production that enhances the sounds making the instruments crisp and distinct from each other. The rhythm is almost perfect right from "First Side," a song bordering on Dream Theater-esque metal prog that lets the components' distinct technical characteristics seep through the notes. The electric guitar launches into an interesting sustained and energetic solo between tempo changes and an intense vocal performance. It takes the single "Burn It Up" to make the band's characteristics clear, all the coordinates to fully enter their sonic world made of colors but also refrains to be sung and fully enjoyed for freshness coexist in here. Once again the voice is perfect interpreter, it is no coincidence that Tesio was also a contestant at the talents "Tu Si Qué Vales" and "Amici."
And we come to the track where Sherinan lends her hand, namely "Feeling Myself," here Raised By Haze show another side of their sound, the one aimed at the 1970s with a catchy groove that is irresistible at times. Once again Gabriele Robotti's guitar leaves its mark in the mid-past of the song, bringing the listener back to the present day.
An arpeggio opens "Freedom," a track that is more introspective than what we have heard so far, though it has plenty of energy inside and a round of chorus to pad it out. It veers toward the even more modern sound thanks to the almost Rap/Funky of "So Hot Right Now," this is among the album's simplest movements.
"God Ki" brings the listening back into the Metal Prog track, throwing adrenaline in profusion, an instrumental where the ballistic qualities of the musicians can be appreciated, this turns out to be one of the best tracks on the album for the writer's taste. "Prediction" is a topical ballad, the title track shows style, and the concluding "Post Credits Scene" has sonic semblances close to those of Steve Wilson.
All in all, "Touch The Sky" is a debut with flying colors and Raised By Haze is a name to keep an eye on as I am sure they will delight us again in time, in the meantime I already appreciate. MS
